Study Lead, BLUEPRINT Study | Clinical Neonatologist | Respiratory Physiologist

Professor David Tingay is a highly regarded clinical neonatologist and respiratory physiologist at the Melbourne Children’s Campus, Australia, with a dedicated focus and interest on optimising respiratory support for babies in the NICU.

As the Study Lead for the BLUEPRINT Study, he is driving groundbreaking research into the phenotypes and evolution of early preterm respiratory health.

David leads the MCRI Neonatal Research Program, which is an interconnected program of molecular, imaging and clinical science aiming to better understand lung injury and develop new neonatal critical care respiratory support strategies guided by physiology and precision medicine.

Internationally recognised, David currently serves as Chair of the Respiratory Failure Section of ESPNIC and is a committee member for the Lancet Future of Neonatology. As lead investigator of the BLUEPRINT Study, he is pioneering research on the use of PEEP to support the preterm lung at birth. David is also a key figure in national and international leadership groups focused on neonatal respiratory diseases, chest imaging, congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH), and COVID-19.
